UNDERSHERIFF JAY SNOW

Undersheriff Jay Snow has been a dedicated and driven member of the Bent County Sheriff’s Office since January of 2019, demonstrating a profound commitment to the safety and prosperity of his local community. Appointed to the role of Undersheriff by Sheriff Jake Six on January 3, 2024, Snow brings a wealth of tactical expertise, specialized training, and hands-on leadership experience to the agency's command staff.
A Colorado native, Snow's deep roots in the community began when he moved to Las Animas with his grandparents in 2006. After graduating from Las Animas High School in 2010, he attended Otero Junior College, where he earned an Associate Degree in General Education alongside specialized certificates in agricultural business, business management, and bookkeeping. Before beginning his career in law enforcement, Snow spent four years working on his family's farm, instilling a strong foundational work ethic that he carried into his next role as a Correctional Officer for the Bent County Correctional Facility. During his two years at the facility, he quickly distinguished himself among his peers, earning a promotion to Case Manager and becoming a certified Special Operations Response Team (SORT) officer as well as a Chemical Agents Instructor.
Snow's career with the Bent County Sheriff’s Office officially began in January 2019 when he was selected for the agency's employment longevity program. Sponsored by the Office, he attended the Otero Junior College Law Enforcement Training Academy. Fully POST certified, Snow gained critical cross-departmental experience serving as both a Detentions Deputy and a Dispatcher before moving to the Patrol Division. His strategic thinking and leadership capabilities led to rapid advancement within the agency. In January 2020, he was assigned to the Investigations Section of the Patrol Division and promoted to the rank of Corporal. Two years later, in January 2022, he was promoted to Sergeant, where he successfully led a team of patrol deputies. In August 2023, he attained the rank of Captain, taking on the immense responsibility of overseeing the Jail and Dispatch Divisions before ultimately being appointed as Undersheriff.
Beyond his command and administrative duties, Undersheriff Snow is a highly respected law enforcement educator. Hired by the Otero College Law Enforcement Training Academy in 2020, he serves as an instructor in driving, less-lethal force, vehicle contacts and vehicle searches. He soon achieved designation of Full Skills Instructor for the State of Colorado. Within the Bent County Sheriff's Office, he serves as the agency's premier lead instructor in Chemical Munitions and less-lethal weapons deployment, ensuring his fellow deputies are trained to the highest possible standard.
Undersheriff Snow remains deeply invested in the long-term future of Bent County. He is heavily integrated into the local school system, demonstrating a dedication to the community's youth that extends well beyond his law enforcement duties. For the past six years, he has been a cornerstone of local athletics, serving as the head coach for both the Las Animas Trojans high school football team and the girls basketball team.
