FACILITY
The Bent County Jail serves as the primary detention center for the county, while also housing inmates for the Colorado Department of Corrections. Constructed between 1999 and 2000 to replace the historic 1902 jailhouse located adjacent to the Bent County Courthouse, the facility has evolved significantly to meet growing operational demands. Originally designed to house 46 inmates, the jail underwent its first expansion in 2012 to accommodate 60 beds. Most recently, in 2024, Sheriff Jake Six spearheaded a comprehensive modernization project. This critical overhaul completely updated the facility's infrastructure and expanded its capacity to 94 beds, transforming it into a highly secure, 21st-century correctional environment.
