BENT COUNTY SHERIFF
JAKE R. SIX

Sheriff Jake Six is a lifelong public servant with deep roots in Bent County. Raised in Las Animas, he has dedicated his career to the safety, education, and well-being of his hometown. Now in his second term, he was first elected Bent County Sheriff on January 6, 2019, taking office as the youngest serving sheriff in the State of Colorado.

His commitment to serving the community began long before he wore a badge. After graduating from Las Animas High School in 2010, he served as a Park Ranger for the United States Army Corps of Engineers and a volunteer driver for the Bent County Ambulance Service. He concurrently earned his Associate Degree from Otero Junior College and graduated from the Otero Junior College Law Enforcement Training Academy in La Junta in 2012.

Sheriff Six began his law enforcement career as a patrol deputy for the Kiowa County Sheriff’s Office under Sheriff Forrest Frazee. His leadership capabilities were quickly recognized; by 2013, he was appointed supervisor of the Reserve Division and promoted to Sergeant. In 2015, Sheriff Casey Sheridan appointed him Undersheriff of Kiowa County, a role he held until his successful election in Bent County.

Beyond his administrative and patrol duties, Sheriff Six is highly regarded across the state for his technical training expertise. He has served as the Driving Instructor for the Otero College Law Enforcement Training Academy since 2016, Lead Instructor since 2018 and in 2022, the State of Colorado officially designated him as a Subject Matter Expert in Law Enforcement Driving.

Sheriff Six remains deeply embedded in local civic life outside of the Sheriff’s Office. He is a dedicated firefighter and trustee for the Las Animas Volunteer Fire Department, which he joined in 2021, and continues to invest in the next generation of Bent County residents following his 2025 election to the Las Animas School District Board of Education.
